As mentioned earlier after so many treks to Fort Raigad  & Fort Pratapgad ,  this is  first time we are visiting another 2 famous  forts of great Maratha King Raja Shiv Chatrapati.

Another safe but exigent climbs of 1,312 & 1,403 meters in 2 days.

Another caring & sharing group of Eco Trekkers.

Another 3 nights & 2 days full of excitements & memories.

Another gaze  into  history which happened some 340 years back.

Torna Fort or Prachandagad is a large fort located in Pune district in the state of Maharashtra, India. It is historically significant because it is the first fort captured by Shivaji Maharaj in 1643, at the age of 16 forming the nucleus of the Maratha empire.
The hill has an elevation of 1,403 metres (4,603 ft) above sea level, making it the highest hill-fort in the district. Once you start climbing the fort, you should reach the fort within 2hr 30mins with an easy pace.  Climb is of medium difficulty .

Sinhagad, Sinhgarh, or Sinhgad (The Lion's Fort), is a fortress, previously called Kondhana.  The fort has been the site of many important battles, most notably the battle of Sinhagad in 1670. It is also strategically located at the centre of a string of other forts such as Rajgad, Purandar and Torna.
Perched on an isolated cliff of the Bhuleswar range of the Sahyadri Mountains, it is situated on a hill rising 1312 metres above sea level. Given natural protection by its very steep slopes, the walls and bastions were constructed at only key places; it has two gates – the Kalyan Darwaza in the south-east and the Pune Darwaza in the north-east.
Parts of the once extensive fortification are now in ruins, but visitors still sense how the fort acted as an active military outpost.  The site also houses a memorial to Tanaji as well as the tomb of Rajaram, Shivaji's younger son, who also died here.
The fort is also part of training at National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla. Cadets from the academy are regularly sent on a hikes and runs from NDA to Sinhagad in full battle gear to build endurance and stamina. The fort also houses a television tower for broadcasting local TV signals.

Important :-
To those who don’t want to climb the forts but want to be a part of the group ,only option for them at Torna Fort  is to sit in our bus and watch other people climbing the fort.   Whereas at Fort Sinhgad, since our bus will be going up to collect our trekkers after their climb, they can make use of it and be on the top of the fort and enjoy the beauty of the place with less efforts.
Mind you..  on 25th Jan. it could be coldest evening at Mahabaleshwar  (as per the  recordings of past several years during this time of the year ) but... the thrill will be  inexhaustible. In fact whole of this journey will be like an    air-conditioned one, and if you want to enjoy it up to the most, my request of carrying many warm clothing should not be uncared for.
